FromWe have a number of services and clinics available at our practice.

Child Health Clinic – Thursday 1.30pm – 2.30pm.

A nurse will be available to give immunisations. Weighing and advice clinic is now being held at Silksworth Health Centre on a Monday between 9.00am – 11.00am.

Antenatal Clinic – Thursday 1.00pm – 2.30pm

The community midwife will see pregnant patients. Pertussis vaccination can now be obtained at the practice for ladies 28 weeks+ gestation.

Asthma

For yearly reviews please make an appointment. However, if you feel unwell, please contact the surgery and make an appointment with the doctor.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Clinic

An appointment for your annual review will be sent to you when this appointment is due. Again, if you will feel unwell, please make an appointment to see the doctor.

Open access clinic (Treatment room)

From 6 March 2017, the open access clinic will only be held on a Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am – 11am for minor ailments i.e. urine infections, dressings, B12 and Zoladex injections, vaginal swabs, ear syringing, removal of sutures. If patients are uncertain as to what is seen in the open access clinic please ask one of the receptionists.

Phlebotomy clinic

We have a daily phlebotomy clinic between 8.30am – 9.45am.

Flu & Pneumonia Clinics

Flu clinics will commence on 19 September 2016. Please arrange an appointment with our reception team if you are over 65, and or suffer from chronic disease i.e. Diabetes, COPD, IHD, kidney, liver and neurological conditions, people with low immunity e.g. those receiving certain medications or cancer treatments. Pregnant women.

Shingles

Patients aged 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 78 and 79 are now eligible for the shingles vaccination. If you wish to receive this immunisation, contact reception and we shall arrange an appointment for you.

Minor Surgery

Dr Hussain will remove small lumps and bumps. An appointment will be made when needed.

Diabetic Clinic

An appointment for your annual review will be sent to you when this appointment is due. A doctor and nurse are available. There is also a nurse review clinic.

Heart Disease Clinic

An appointment for your annual review will be sent to you when this appointment is due.

Women’s Health Service

The doctors and nurses are available to discuss women’s health issues. Advice on all methods of contraception, safe sex, emergency contraception and advice on the menopause. A confidential service for the under 16’s is provided and free condoms are available from the practice nurses. Women between 25-49 of age, are advised to have a cervical smear every 3 years. Women between 49-65 to have a cervical smear every 5 years. An appointment can be made with one of our practice nurses.

Sexual health services & contraception

Chlamydia screening available to patients 16 – 24 of age.  Please speak to one of our receptionists for further information.

TRAVEL VACCINATIONS & ADVICE

Our Nursing team will offer advice on travel immunisations. A questionnaire requires to be completed by patients in order to get the correct travel immunisations. We offer Hep A, Hepatitis B, Polio, Typhoid (currently unavailable), Tetanus, Diphteria immunisations.

Yellow Fever can be obtained from Hylton Redhouse Surgery 5481269, Keipier Medical Centre 5842106 Houghton le Spring, Fulwell Medical Practice 5483635.

NHS Health Checks

Patients between the age of 40 – 74 who do not suffer from diabetes and heart disease, are eligible for a NHS Health Check which may detect an early risk factor of heart disease.

The practice also provides other services i.e. dementia reviews, learning disabilities, smoking cessation, spirometry, heart failure/stroke clinics, weight management, mental health review, flu and pneumonia vaccinations, 6-week baby checks, Psychotherapy, CPNs, prostate reviews, Depression, Cancer review, Thyroid checks, Epilepsy review, pulse checks, hypertension checks, contraception & HRT, ear syringing, B12 injections, dressings……to mention a few….

75 Year Health Checks

Patients that are over 75 years of age are eligible for an annual health check with our Health Care Assistants. Please arrange an appointment with our reception team.

Carers annual health check and flu injection

Patients that are registered as carers are entitled to an annual health check and flu injection. (Vaccines available from September) Please arrange an appointment with our Practice Nurses.
