Appointments can be made either by telephone or by calling into the practice. You can either book a pre-bookable appointment with our doctors or nurses. It would be helpful if you could ring between 10.00am and 5.30pm for your pre-bookable appointment as this keeps the telephone lines free for urgent phone calls.
If you require a same day urgent appointment, advice or a home-visit, we have an on call doctor every weekday between 8.45am – 9.30am available to speak to.
Please try to ensure that requests for home visits are made by 9.30am whenever possible. Home visits are reserved for the truly housebound and terminally ill patients only.
We also have routine telephone consultations for non-urgent advice that does not require a consultation at the surgery. Please speak to our receptionist to arrange this appointment.
Our Practice Nurses are also available to speak to for routine telephone advice. Phone times may change on a daily basis. Please contact the receptionist for the next available phone-in time.
We always try to minimise the waiting time for you and, whilst we try to see you at the appointed time, some patients’ appointments may take longer than the time allocated, so please be patient if there is some delay.
We will also try to give you an appointment with the doctor that you prefer, but it may not always be possible. If you are willing to see any doctor you may get an earlier appointment. It’s also advisable that you should try to see the same doctor during the course of the same illness.
Please always attend your appointment on time and if you are unable to keep your appointment then please remember to call us as soon as possible. By doing this, you will be helping us to make more appointments available for you and other patients.
We do try and aim to give patients an appointment within 48 hours to see a GP and within 24 hours with a nurse.
If for some reason you are unable to attend at the time given or at the weekend, please access Grindon Lane Walk in Centre, 0191/5252300.The Walk in Centre will only deal with certain medical conditions, please ask at reception for further details.
When the surgery is closed, please ring NHS 111.
Please ask the reception staff for further advice on the appropriate appointments.
